WARNING: personal responsibility may be beneficial to your health

by The Nihilist

This whole ‘womb to tomb’ hold your hand and wipe your ass form of Socialist government bullshit needs to die a bloody horrible death.

HA! GOTCHA…

A vast majority of you just applied a whole lot of your own personal psychological baggage to that statement and ASSUMED you knew my political affiliation. Word of caution; NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING ABOUT ME! That’s a really good way to get kicked right in the teeth.

I’m not a RepubliCANT! Or a DemoCRAP! Or even a LiberTARD! I’m an ANARCHIST!

HA! GOT YA AGAIN!

Most of you just saw the big scary “A” word and ASSUMED that I was a gun toting, Molotov cocktail hurling Destructionist. What did I just tell you about ASSUMING.

NEWS FLASH: GHANDI WAS AN ANARCHIST

Just because I’m not opposed to say, 5 or 6 billion bodies becoming top soil, doesn’t mean that I’m supporting or colluding with any group of jackasses that might be trying to actually accomplish that feat. I’d prefer to let Nature take It's own course. Don’t get me wrong, I too have a small amount of personal bias when expressing how I’d like to see the world around me. But I’m not hatching any plans for global catastrophe or world domination or anything sinister like that.

I’m not bad . . . I’m just drawn that way!” - - Jessica Rabbit

Now to the issue at hand:

WASHINGTON (AP) - Congress on Friday sent to the White House legislation that gives the federal government vast new powers to regulate and restrict cigarettes, the single largest cause of preventable death.

I’m not even a smoker and this bothers the piss out of me. Last time I checked, cigarettes were legal, I was an adult and I paid my taxes (or was just robbed of that income, as the case may be.) That means I can choose what I do with my body and my money. If I chose to walk out to the street in front of my house, pry up some of the asphalt, roll it up in a page from the BUYBULL and smoke it, while sipping on a bottle of Thunderbird wrapped in a brown paper bag; I could do that. Now personally, I’m a Bombay Sapphire and cranberry juice with a lime kind of girl and if I do decide to light up, I like a Djarum Black but that's just me.

More than 400,000 people die every year from tobacco-related diseases, according to government figures.

So? About 100,000 people die every year from medical error. Everybody takes a dirt nap. The people that are dying from doctor and hospital screw-ups didn’t choose that death. People that smoke know that its not good for them and do choose that death, its their choice.

The greater goal of the legislation is to reduce deaths linked to smoking and shrink the annual $100 billion health care price tag for tobacco-related illnesses.

It not the Government’s job to reduce deaths related to anything. And as far as the price tag goes, its not the Government’s job (or mine, as a tax payer) to pick up the tab for your medical bills. If you choose to do something that can hurt you, you should be responsible for the consequences. If you can’t afford to get sick from smoking, then I guess you can’t afford to smoke, can you. If you get some ailment caused by your choice to smoke then you should pay for your own bills. Same with drinking alcohol or skydiving or any other choice that involves a risk factor. Its called personal choice and PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for a reason. If you can’t afford whatever treatment you might end up needing then you don’t get treated, you die, problem solved.

Smoking is responsible for more than 30 percent of all cancer deaths, said Dr. Douglas Blayney, president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

I know an American Public School education is pretty shitty, but can you really not do some simple math here. That statistic means that smoking is NOT RESPONSIBLE for MORE THAN HALF of all cancer related deaths. So stop using smoking and smokers as a scapegoat. Cigarette tax is roughly 150% depending on where you live, so the idea that smokers AREN’T funding their own health care is a little absurd also. If that is going to be your pathetic argument, then the tax money from cigarettes should go exclusively to treat smoking related aliments and diseases. No funding research, no lining the government’s pockets, no nothing else! Just a giant fund to be used by smokers only. They can use as much of the money as they put into it and when they have used their share, they don’t get anymore of it. Again, when the smoker runs out of money for treatment, the smoker runs out of treatment, the smoker dies…the problem is still solved.

As far as the FDA is concerned, I have about as much faith in those assholes as I have in the IRS, the SSA or the Federal Banking Commission. Any agency on the Nanny-State’s payroll does not have the best interest of the public, it has the interest of preserving the Nanny-State.

I’m apparently not the only one who feels this way. This is just a few of the comments about this story:

I'm not a smoker, but man do I get sick of this insanity. Everyone knows smoking is bad for you. We don't need more big government to tell us that. Wake up USA, the nanny state has arrived, and they want to interfere in your life. If you don't think they'll be targeting alcohol, coffee, soda pop, snacks, and other enjoyable things next with their taxes and tyranny, you're seriously naive. This isn't about health. It IS about more power over your life for do-gooder, leftist social engineers. Everyday that the likes of Barry Hussein, Princess Pelosi, Nanny Waxman, and their idiotic ilk are in office, we lose a little more of our money, we lose a little more of our liberty, and a little more of what once made this country great dies. Welcome to Amerika in 2009. How sad

Doe the federal government have enough control yet???? No, I don't think so. They want control over one of their biggest money makers. Taxes on tobacco products is one of their biggest money makers. OH well, lets just cut the money off at the source. Sure, it will save some from the socielistic medical program, but that was doomed to fail like Social Security and Medi-care. We just need to wait and suffer like all those who deal with those programs now

Okay, what I want to know is this: if nobody dies (which if we can eliminate all causes of cancer, heart attack and stroke people will live longer) and people keep having 8,10, 12 kids at a time, how will we feed ourselves and whre will we live? Okay, we'll live EVERYWHERE on the planet and I guess we'll have to eat Solyent Green. I don't know about most of you, but I sure don't want to live to be 150! That'd mean I'd have to work until I was at least 130 and who wants to slave for "the man" for 110 years?

Bravo! CoNative3…I couldn’t have wrote it better myself, except for the tiny typo @whre. What the fuck is wrong with you people? For the second time in just this post: EVERYBODY TAKES A DIRT NAP! Dying is natural, trying to escape death is not only unnatural, its psychologically unhealthy.

tempus fugit, mors venit

Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
